My music teacher mother sent me to a Chinese piano factory as an apprentice when I was 17. I studied with piano tuning master Jin Xianbin and pianist Liu Shikun, received Steinway training in the United States, and implemented piano technician standards. I was deeply influenced by Ron Conners, the chief concert technician at the Steinway piano factory in New York, who was known for his expertise in handling the “mechanical structure” of pianos and his extremely meticulous “tone adjustment.”
