Optimization of Interval Weighting for Steinway Pianos via Pianoscope Pro: Construction and Practice of the Classical Fullness Model v1.0
English Abstract
This article explores how professional piano tuners in the AI era can reshape the acoustics of a performance-grade Steinway (L) grand piano by intervening in the mathematical models of top-tier tuning software, specifically Pianoscope Pro. While AI tools can precisely measure pitch deviation and generate tuning curves, elite acoustic results still rely heavily on human ears and empirical judgment. Utilizing the author’s proprietary “Classical Fullness Model v1.0,” this paper systematically outlines a four-step framework for establishing custom interval weightings: defining aesthetic goals, quantifying the weight parameter matrix, conducting stress boundary testing, and performing digital iterations. By increasing the weights of 2:1, 4:1, and 3:2 intervals and reducing the weight of the 19th (3:1), this model suppresses aggressive modern metallic treble stretch while enhancing chord cohesion in the tenor and bass. The practice demonstrates that contemporary master tuners must leverage digital tools to translate auditory aesthetics into “acoustic code,” achieving precise stress redistribution across the harmonic series.
