An Artisan’s Craft and Confidence

I am profoundly influenced by Ron Conners, Chief Concert Technician at the Steinway piano factory in New York, famous for his deep mechanical expertise and exquisite voicing skills.

Even after nearly forty years in piano tuning, tone quality remains the very thing that captivates me. Sometimes, a piano’s sound hasn’t gone bad; it just hasn’t been awakened yet. The pure tone of a piano comes from the tuner’s skill and confidence.

A technician who listens with their soul can coax out a sound that is soft yet defined, bright yet pleasing to the ear—much like pearls falling onto a jade plate. The moment a piece is played, the stability of both tone and pitch is instantly proven.
